SRU is home to a large variety of musical ensembles, giving numerous opportunities for non-music majors to pursue their interests in performing.

The Rock-appellas are a performance group that was formed in the 2024 fall semester. They are currently aiming to gain more traction and attention on campus.

The students perform a cappella, which involves performing without any instruments. They create all musical aspects vocally.

Ryan Eggert is a junior with a dual concentration in BA acting and theatre arts management. He is also the founder and president of the Rock-appellas.

“I actually am the main person to have pushed for this group’s creation, and what inspired me to do so was the experience I had at my first college as a freshman at Duquesne. There, I was a part of an a cappella group called Mic Drop. I had so much fun that I was hoping to join an a cappella group when I arrived on campus here. Since there wasn’t one, I was inspired to try and start SRU’s first-ever official a cappella group,” Eggert shared.

The group, while small, is composed of students who are passionate about making a cappella music.

Eggert shared what he loves most about this organization.

“I have met a lot of incredibly talented and amazing people through this journey, and I think that has been the most rewarding part for sure. I also love the opportunity I get to, not only sing and do something I am passionate about, but to teach and lead others through it as well!” Eggert said.

Their final performance of the year will be on Dec. 6.

“We will be going to houses and caroling with pieces and carols we have learned this semester,” Eggert said.

They hope in the future to perform both on and off campus, wanting to perform as much as possible.

Eggert discussed how he feels that joining the Rock-appellas benefits students on campus.

“Students have the opportunity to either join this fun singing ensemble and make great friends and music, or students can book the Rock-appellas for a potential performance at an event,” Eggert said.
