Slippery Rock University played rival Indiana University (Pa.) at home this Wednesday in a non-conference field hockey game.

The Rock came out hot in the first period with a shot attempt delivered by Hilary Hoffman. That would be the only shot of the period.

Indiana University would go on to take five shots of their own, all of which were blocked or saved by SRU goalie Lea Riegling and defense.

There was a lot of back and forth to start the second period, with neither team taking a shot in the first 10 minutes. The Crimson Hawks opened the score board with a penalty stroke goal scored by Lilly Fringer in the 12th minute of the period.

The White and Green tried to retaliate with a penalty stroke of their own from Roz Mikulak, but the shot was saved by IUP’s goalie, Celeste Pagliaroli.

Coming out of the half, IUP limited SRU to zero shots in the third period. The Rock held their own defensively, only allowing the Hawks three shots, two of which were on goal but saved by Riegling.

Slippery Rock opened the fourth period with a shot in the first minute by Hoffman, but the junior’s attempt came up short. Indiana turned around to score just a minute later.

The Crimson Hawks did not allow the White and Green to take a single shot in the fourth period, but would go on to put up four more shots until the last second in the game. Indiana’s Jess Davidson scored her ninth goal of the season to solidify the win for IUP, 3-0.

Slippery Rock goes on the road to play Mansfield this Saturday for their last game of the season.
