Working in the Digital Media Center, I spent my junior year directly across from The Rocket’s office. From the outside looking in, The Rocket office seemed like more than a newsroom. I noticed how close the staff was and how much time everyone spent together. I remember thinking, “I wish I could be a part of that.”
When Teiko Simms mentioned that The Rocket was looking for a new Copy/Web Editor, I jumped at the chance. I saw it as an opportunity to not only grow professionally, but to be a part of something meaningful. It was the best decision I ever made.
Dr. Fleming,
You devote so much time to all of us, and that is something we all appreciate. I have learned so much under your guidance and I couldn’t have asked for a better advisor for The Rocket.
Soph,
You were one of the first to get to know me when I joined, and you created such a welcoming environment in the office. While I wish I could have spent my last semester with you on staff, I am so happy we are friends.
Maddie,
Your dedication to The Rocket is truly remarkable. You spend more time in the office than anyone else and you are always on top of everything. I am glad we were able to get to know each other better.
Andrei,
You are insanely smart and I would not be surprised if I saw your name on the presidential ballot in 20 years. You would definitely have my vote.
Audrey,
I have only known you for a short time, but I am so glad that I did nonetheless. I also want you to know that as someone who edits your articles, you are a very strong writer and you have a bright future ahead of you.
Noelle,
Every time you walk into the office, the first thing I notice is the smile on your face. You are such a cheerful presence and an amazing sports editor too. (P.S. I’m glad there was another Flood City native on staff.)
Aidan,
I think I will miss your late-night, weekend story submissions the most. In all seriousness though, you are an amazing writer. The Rocket is lucky to have someone with such a good head on their shoulders and a good heart.
Hayden,
It’s been a pleasure working with you. You’ve been a great EIC and I am so glad I was able to get to know you better this past semester. I know you’ll be fantastic when you join “the dark side” (PR) next semester.
Chloe,
You are the whole package; talented AND funny. You are an amazing graphic designer and you never fail to make me laugh. I can’t wait to see what your future holds because I know you will go far.
Paige,
I am going to miss working with you so much! I couldn’t have asked for anyone better to share the “Copy/Web” world with. I hope there are still a few karaoke nights left for us before graduation.
Dward,
I never imagined that you and I would become so close when I first joined staff, but I am glad we did. You are so talented and I have no doubt that you will go far in life. All I have left to say is, “Peace out, gang.”
Katie,
There are so many ways I could describe you, but I think unforgettable is the best one. We have made so many memories together in and out of the office. Whether it is Eddie making us enchiladas or late night Target trips, I know that it will be an adventure with you.
Kayla,
I know people say this to you all of the time, but you are the sweetest person I have ever met. Sitting next to you was like having a ray of sunshine next to my desk everyday. Never let anyone dull your sparkle. And Kayla, I love you a billion too.
Annabelle,
You are the most honest and brave person I have ever met. You speak your mind and you are not afraid to ask the tough questions, which is probably why you are such a great journalist. On top of that, you are also one of the funniest people I know. I’m glad we have become so close this past year.
As I prepare for graduation and close this chapter of my life, I could not have asked for a better group of people to spend the majority of my senior year with.
