The Rock lacrosse stayed undefeated in conference play and maintained their hold on first place with a 19-6 victory at Edinboro University earlier today.
No. 13 Slippery Rock eclipsed their opponents’ full-time goal total in the first period by way of seven goals by five different players.
Reagan Richeson got the scoring started in the second minute before finding the back of the net again later in the period. Grace Rotter also accrued two first-period goals, while the other three came from Abby Fink, Erin Melcher and Laurelle Surrette.
The Rock narrowly missed out on doubling their score by the end of the second period, but fell one goal short despite both Richeson and Melcher completing first-half hat tricks to send the White and Green into half with a 13-1 advantage.
Ella Koslowski, Isabelle Buono and Ava Dossier made up The Rock’s remaining three goals of the front 30 minutes.
SRU took their foot off the gas slightly in the second half, but still added six goals courtesy of Surette, Maddie Blazey, Shannon Von Kaenel, Lauren Petty, Hailey Ohlsen and Cadyn Eismann.
Richeson and Melcher’s three-goal games led the way for the White and Green, who tallied four total multi-goal performances with the others being Surette and Rotter. SRU had 13 different goal scorers for the game.
Rotter’s five points were the most on the field as the junior added three assists to her line that already included two goals. Her seven shots were also the most, while Melcher’s five shots on goal led SRU.
Shannon Von Kaenel was the only athlete on the field to reach double-digit draw controls with 10. Paige Jenkins followed her up with five.
Lily Ventresca and Ava Drath each recorded two saves, with Ventresca allowing just one shot behind her. The Rock remains the only team in the conference with less than 100 goals allowed.
The win lifted the White and Green to 12-1 overall and 7-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
The Rock lacrosse now looks forward to an away rivalry matchup with Indiana University (Pa.) on Saturday.
