The Rock tennis made their first entry in their conference schedule win column in dominant fashion with a 7-0 victory over Clarion University at the SRU Tennis Courts on Tuesday.
The White and Green got off on the right foot during the doubles flights and carried their winning ways throughout the rest of the match.
Amaia Balaguer Brau and Tina Slovak were the first to notch a win, conquering Clarion’s Polia Vladeva and Josie Beckerleg 6-0. Dari Sakhanova and Marika Kempinski followed up with a 6-1 win before the No. 1 team of Alissia Kivi and Nicole Kempton earned a 6-0 win of their own.
The Rock took the singles portion of the match by storm as well, nearly earning 6-0, 6-0 victories in every flight.
Balaguer Brau, Slovak, Kivi and Kempton each went the whole match without dropping a single game. All four athletes earned 6-0, 6-0 wins in their respective singles flights after taking their 6-0 wins in doubles play.
Sakhanova was the fifth Slippery Rock athlete to record a 6-0, 6-0 win during the singles portion.
Kempinski just narrowly missed out on a clean sweep of every singles game, but her flight finished in White and Green dominance as she rounded out the scoring with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
The match was SRU’s third 7-0 win of the year, their last one coming against West Virginia Wesleyan College on March 21. This match also makes the White and Green’s third clean sweep of singles play this year.
This marks the fifth time in 2025 that The Rock has swept all three doubles flights, and their first sweep in doubles play since the match against West Virginia Wesleyan.
Slippery Rock tennis returns to game action on the SRU Tennis Courts this Saturday for a noon matchup with No. 40 University of Charleston.
