Slippery Rock women’s basketball came out roaring upon the outset of the second half, but their comeback effort was too late in their 44-65 season finale loss at Edinboro University Wednesday night.

The Fighting Scots jumped out to a 39-18 lead by half following a 24-point second quarter before The Rock’s rally.

The third quarter started with four straight buckets from the White and Green courtesy of Alyssa Gillin, Mairan Haggerty and Brooklyn Jones, cutting the deficit to 14.

Edinboro punched back with a two-point jumper, but The Rock followed up with an even bigger scoring run of four two-pointers and two free throws in a row, bringing the game back within six.

The 41-35 lead the Fighting Scots held with 1:05 left in the third quarter was the closest SRU would get the rest of the way.

Edinboro responded to The Rock’s 17-point third quarter, where SRU outscored their opponent by 13, with a 22-point fourth.

The White and Green spread the ball around well, notching four double-digit scorers. Kayley Joseph-Bernard, Jones, Haggerty and Gillin finished in a four-way tie for a team-leading 10 points.

Endya Robinson’s 13 rebounds were comfortably the most of either team, followed by Haggerty’s nine which was also more than any Fighting Scot.

Jones, Joseph-Bernard and Raabe all went perfect on their attempts from the charity stripe. Jones’ four free throws were also the best number on the court.

With the loss, SRU drops to a 7-19 overall final record and a 4-16 conference record.

Both records mark improvement over the 2023-24 season as the White and Green look for a return to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament.

The overall record represents a five-win margin of improvement over last year’s 2-23 record. The 4-16 record in PSAC play doubles their total from a year ago.
