The Rock netted three hat tricks, including a four-goal performance from Leora Owings, during their season-opening 17-1 victory at the University of Findlay on Sunday.
Owings, after missing last season due to an injury, filled up the stat sheet in her first game back. The junior led the White and Green in goals, shots, shots on goal and draw controls. Her four goals were a new collegiate career high while her six shots matched her best number at SRU.
Grace Rotter and Eryn Little represented The Rock’s other two hat tricks. Rotter got the scoring started on a goal assisted by Owings before finding the back of the net two more times comfortably under five minutes in.
Little spread her scoring out, notching a goal apiece in the second, third and fourth quarters.
Reagan Richeson two goals and one each from Maddie Blazey, Abby Fink, Cadyn Eismann, Paige Jenkins and Ava Dossier made up the rest of Slippery Rock’s scoring. Fink’s unassisted goal just 2:28 into the first quarter wound up being the game-winner after The Rock’s defense allowed just one lone score.
The White and Green put up the majority of their scoring in the first half after a six-goal first quarter and four-goal second gave them a 10-1 lead at the halfway point.
Ava Drath got the win in the net with one save and one goal allowed before Lily Ventresca came in for the back 30 minutes.
The White and Green outshot Findlay 42-7, with 33 of those shots on target. They also led in draw controls, 12-8, and had 12 turnovers to Findlay’s 19.
The Rock lacrosse will look to capitalize on their hot start during their upcoming home opener on Saturday when D’Youville University comes to town. The home opener is scheduled at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium at 1 p.m.
