Women’s lax ends winning streak with 18-11 loss

The Slippery Rock University women’s lacrosse team saw its three game winning streak come to an end on Friday with an 18-11 loss to West Chester.

West Chester improved to 9-1 and 4-1 in PSAC action with the victory, while Slippery Rock fell to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in PSAC play.

West Chester ended the final 12:01 of the first half on a 7-2 run to take an 11-5 lead into halftime. The Rock fired back with the first three goals of the second half to cut the deficit to three goals, but West Chester closed the door with a 6-1 run over the final 13 minutes to seal the victory.

The Golden Rams finished the game with advantages of 37-22 in shots and 19-12 in ground balls, while also leading the turnover department 17-7.

SRU was led by senior Erin Wilcox, who scored a hat trick for the sixth time in nine games this season. Junior Ally Culhane added two goals and seniors Kaytlin Callaghan and Anna-Marie Warrington each scored one goal and handed out one assist.

Juniors Chynna Chan, Caitlynn Palladino, and Kaleigh Murray and sophomore Bre Vodde each scored one goal and sophomore Danni Wilson added one assist to cap the point scorers.

Jordan Wagner made 13 saves in goal for SRU against the top scoring offense in the league.

West Chester was led by Ashley Pyle with five goals and three assists. Hannah Cowan added four goals, Sami Barnett scored three goals and Dina Cifelli handed out four assists for the Golden Rams.

Paige Mitros allowed 11 goals in net and made six saves to earn the win for West Chester.
