Students for ObamaStudents for Barack Obama, SBO, meet every Tuesday at 5 p.m. in room 153 in the Advanced Technology and Science Building. Their current project is a non-partisan voter registration drive. All students are invited to attend. Commuter studentsLooking for a place to store books during classes? Rent a locker at the University Union. It?s FREE. Just a $10 deposit is required. Stop by room C217 of the University Union to sign up. Any questions, call Debbie Schell at extension 2491.
LGBTQ resource center
The new SRU Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning Resource Center announces its fall semester hours. Please visit the center to watch a movie, use the resources, or gather with likeminded friends. The fall semester hours are 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, and 1 - 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The Resource Center is located in the basement of the University Union in the back of the game room. Call extension 4378 for more information.
Student counseling center
The Student Counseling Center, previously located in Rhoads Hall, has moved to 113 Cooper Street. It is located diagonally across from Sheetz. The Student Counseling Center phone number, 724-738-2034, remains the same, along with all of the extensions.
Student teaching orientationSpring 2009 student teaching orientation meetings will be held from 6 7:30 p.m. in McKay Auditorium September 17 and from 12:30 1:45 p.m. in McKay Auditorium September 18. This is mandatory. Schedules are expected to be adjusted if necessary in order to attend. Questions may be directed to 738-2007. The Pittsburgh/Urban, PDS and Mexico student teaching programs will be discussed at the meetings.
Student teaching pre-registrationStudents planning on student teaching during the Fall 2008 semester should pre-register by November 1. Students must take all Praxis exams prior to student teaching. Application forms are available from department offices and advisors. The completed form must have a current DARS, scores from Praxis reading, writing, and math tests, copy of TB results, signed pre-field observation form clear copies of current FBI, Acts 34 and 151 clearances and 6 credits of college level English. A 2.8 QPA is the current PA Department of Education requirement, and a 3.0 QPA is required for certification.
