SRU upset by Seton Hill

The Slippery Rock University football team got their first taste of action Saturday in a 27-20 loss to Seton Hill at Offutt Field in Greensburg, Pa. Seven members of both the Rock offense and defense were first year starters and although the team lost, the effort was noble.

The number of goals sophomore forward and newly named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Player of the Week Alison Hindley scored last Sunday in the Rock's season opening 5-0 whitewashing of Seton Hill. Four. The number of players, including Hindley, in Rock women's soccer history to score four or more goals in a game, which puts her with the likes of All-American Sonya Maher who netted her four in 1996 versus Washington & Jefferson and Allison Bourke (1996 versus LaRoche).

Field hockey moves to 2-1 after back-to-back wins

Even though most students were home for the holidays last weekend, Slippery Rock's women's field hockey team (2-1) was trying to earn their first victory of the season. The team played hard and earned a 5-2 victory against Catawba College (N.C.) to bring their record on the season to 1-1.

New coach tries to change tide to produce winning basketball

Someone didn't touch the line. Run it again. Someone else didn't run through the line to finish the sprint. Run it again. Coach Kevin Reynolds stands at mid-court, always pacing, commenting on the sprints going on before him. "We will not take any shortcuts," Reynolds said after one of his players missed the line.

Volleyball has rough start in the Rocky Mountains

The Rock women's volleyball team kicked off the 2008 season last weekend with, fittingly, a trip to the Rocky Mountains to compete in the Oredigger Classic at Colorado School of Mines. Playing four matches over the course of two days, Coach Laurie Lokash watched her team finish 1-3 as the dust settled.
