With another successful season coming to a close, the Rock's men's and women's track team races for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The men's and women's track schedule concluded at the Carnegie Mellon Senior Meet last Saturday with eight first place performances by the team.

Junior pole-vaulter Jennifer Hansen broke the school record of 12-feet, 11.5 inches, set by her only two days earlier, with a height of 13-feet, 2.25-inches. Hansen originally set the record at the Penn Relays last Thursday.

Other first place finishers in the women's category included: senior Brittany Little (12 minutes and 10.3 seconds) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase; freshman Whitney Hendershot (5-feet, 3.75 inches) in the high jump; sophomore Serena Bond (36-feet, 4-inches) in the triple jump; sophomore Jessica Koerner (145-feet, 6-inches) in the hammer throw; Rachel Weber (38-feet, 4.75 inches) in the shot put.

The men's outdoor track team recorded the other two medals at the meet with freshman Terrece Draper (46-feet, 10 inches) in the triple jump and senior Tim Tray (15-feet, 11.75 inches) in the pole vault.

Last Saturday at the Red Flash Open, three more athletes met provisional qualifying times for nationals.

Freshman Allison Smith (1:02.17) and Amanda Seigworth (1:02.14) met the requirement in the 400-meter hurdles.

Freshman Tiffany Tedesco, sophomore Tina Beggs, junior Lacey Cochran and senior Emily Bush ran a 47.52 in the 4x100-meter hurdles to meet the provisional requirement. Not all of the men's and women's track team participated in the Carnegie Mellon Senior Meet or the Red Flash Open. Some of the athletes chose to rest up for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship, which most the team feels is the most important event of the season. Junior 10,000-meter runner Pat Reagan said there's going to be some tough competition at the conference championship. He said the team needs to go out and perform their best in order to bring home the championship.
