As the age-old glass-half-full saying goes, students can either see this coming week as a hectic plethora of final exams, or a countdown until summer vacation.
Considering the abundance of shorts and flip-flops, Frisbee in front of residence halls and even an occasional water balloon fight in the quad, it's obvious that many students are choosing the latter and counting down the days until summer.
Some SRU students have decided to travel this summer - whether it be abroad or staying within the border.
Christina Guthrie, a 21-year-old junior business marketing major, is taking a weeklong vacation to visit her friend in Texas this summer.
"My trip to Texas is going to be a good time, it's really hot and there are always things to do," she said. "It's a new atmosphere and it allows me to be adventurous."
Like Guthrie, Andrea Carlin, a 22-year-old theatre major, is taking a trip this summer. Carlin's trip, however, will be for both business and pleasure.
The Slippery Rock Theatre Department is taking a play called The Margins, which is written by SRU Professor David Skeele, and directed by Assistant Professor Laura Smiley, to Edinburgh, Scotland this summer. Carlin is a part of the cast that will be performing this play for 10 nights.
"I am excited to perform with the department overseas," Carlin said. "It'll be great to share this play with people who might not get to see something from (the horror) genre."
Thirteen additional SRU students, along with Carlin, are spending part of their summer in Scotland. Seven of the 13 will actually be performing "The Margins" at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Matt McNear, a 24-year-old senior theatre major, sees this as more than just a trip over-seas.
"It's definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity to perform at The Fringe [in Scotland]," McNear said.
But the theatre department isn't the only one exemplifying their talents this summer.
Michelle Sayers, a 22-year-old senior chemistry major, was chosen to compete in the Miss Majorette of America competition at Notre Dame University in Southbend, Indiana.
