Old Thompson must be saved
Issue date: 4/25/08 Section: Rocket Letters
To the editor:
I am sending you this letter in regard to my concern for Old Thompson Field.
I ask you (the administration) to reconsider building a parking garage on this green space.
This area is one of the only green spaces that we have left.
I am not asking you (the administration) just to consider it as a place to leave "green" but as a place where people meet and have fun together.
I am not the only one that cares about this area.
Many students use this area for pick-up games, for frisbee, for recreation in general.
The PE department uses it for many classes, and it is also used for the Relay for Life.
This area is important to so many of us and it has been here since the 1920s.
I am asking that you (the administration) please consider putting the parking garage on an already paved area.
I do agree that a parking garage would be beneficial to students but there is no need to take away this precious area.
This area has history and memories to the university, community members, and students.
Please save this area, it is one of the few green spaces we have left.
This university is moving away from what it once was, a luscious green and beautiful area to an area full of uninviting buildings. Please save this beautiful area that can be seen and enjoyed by not only us but for future generations to come.
"The laws of nature are written deep in the folds and faults of the earth. By encouraging men to learn those laws one can lead them further to a knowledge of the author of all laws."
