Student Government Association Vice President of Financial Affairs Michael Combs introduced the idea of eliminating the faculty and administrative voting members that serve on the Cooperative Activities Board at Thursday's SGA meeting.

As stated in Title II of the SGA constitution, SRSGA has four voting faculty members who represent APSCUF and one administrative assistant who serves as a finance advisor.

A lengthy handout distributed at the meeting by Combs stated that, "It is critical that student government remains a government of the students for the students."

The handout included a percentage of meetings attended by the four faculty members and administrative assistant of the SGA Co-Op Board.

The four APSCUF faculty members-Mark Chase, Joanne Leight, Itzi Meztli and Deb Hutchins-were listed as attending 35, 47, 53 and 35 percent of the Co-Op board meetings, respectively. Ed Hess, the administrative assistant, was listed as having attended 29 percent of the meetings.

SGA Vice President of Administrative Affairs Stephanie Kresge confirmed to Bill Painter, a commuter senator and senator representative for the Co-Op Board, that all the Co-Op Board meetings that weren't planned in advance were included in the percentages.

"'Students' is the key word in Student Government Association," Combs said. "So why do non-students get to vote on the distribution of the general service fee?"

SGA Speaker of the Senate Erin Berger, who also serves on the Co-Op Board, said that there were many instances when the faculty members on the board would abstain from voting.

"Certain members said they abstain because they don't feel right voting on a fee they do not pay," Berger said.
