The doors to the Morrow Field House pool are now forever closed to the SRU women's water polo team.

The squad's 13-5 loss against nationally ranked Indiana University on Sunday marked the final home game for the Rock.

The team is playing in its final varsity season after the university announced earlier this semester that the team would be eliminated.

The defeat to IU (18-13 overall, 6-1 Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division) capped a weekend that featured three straight defeats, running the Rock's losing streak to five games.

First, SRU (3-14, 1-6 CWPA West) squared off against in-state rival Mercyhurst at home.

Senior Beth Choike was once again the sparkplug for the offense. She scored two goals, but the Rock fell behind 3-1 early and never recovered, losing 7-4.

The game against Mercyhurst was a lot more important than any another CWPA West battle the team has had this year, Rock Coach Jim Yeamans said.

"It was senior night," Yeamans said, "but since the girls who aren't seniors will never have the opportunity to have a senior night, it was a senior night for everybody."

The Rock then had its most intense action of the weekend, facing off against Grove City College.

Junior Heather Walbright scored three goals as the Green and White took control. Up 6-3 heading into the fourth period, the Rock seemed poised to snap its losing streak.

But Grove City wasn't ready to hand the Rock a victory.
