From Best Buy to the E! television network, 2005 Rock graduate Ryan Muldowney's journey has definitely been an interesting one.

Starting out as a computer science major, Muldowney changed to communication with an emphasis in journalism during the fall semester of his sophomore year.

"I always enjoyed writing and eventually realized that was what I wanted to be doing," Muldowney said.

Along with writing for The Rocket, Muldowney hosted a late night talk show on WSRU-TV for two years called "Gettin' Later."

"We did a lot of skits and Conan O'Brien-type material," Muldowney, 24, said. "Guests would come on and we would also make videos we would play during the show."

After graduating in 2005, Muldowney moved home to Jefferson Hills, Pa., and briefly worked as a food monitor for a state summer food service program before going on to work at Best Buy for eight months.

"It was a humbling experience," Muldowney said. "I had a degree from college and there I was, competing with 16-year-olds to not be fired after Christmas."

In 2006, Mikey Glazer, a producer from "Fear Factor" who Muldowney had known since 2003, called the Rock grad with a job offer. The producer had seen Muldowney's blog about "Gettin' Later" and commented on the good work. The two had kept in touch for a couple of years and Glazer contacted Muldowney to see if he would be interested in moving to Los Angeles to do some producing work.

"I am probably most proud of the fact that I took the chance to come out here," Muldowney said. "I was going back and forth as to whether I should move to L.A. and I realize (that) if I wouldn't have taken that risk, I may have never had this opportunity again."
