Walbright leads Rock charge with seven top-six finishes

Heather Walbright's seven top-six finishes-three individual and four as part of a relay team-led SRU's swimming team to a fifth-place team finish at Grove City College's 11th Annual Longnecker Invitational last weekend.

Walbright, a junior, finished third in the 500-meter freestyle with a time of 5:31.11. She also finished fifth in the 100 freestyle (56.86), and had a season-best 2:02.10 time in the 200 freestyle, in which she finished fourth.

Walbright also swam legs for the 800 freestyle relay team, which finished in fifth place with a season-best time of 8:33.09; the 200 freestyle relay, which placed sixth with a season-best 1:45.99 mark; the 200 medley relay, which finished in sixth place with a time of 2:01.51 and the 400 medley relay team that grabbed sixth with a time of 4:24.89.

Junior Beth Choike finished sixth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.76 and joined Walbright on the four relay teams.

Junior Lauren Hervatin was a member of the 200 and 800 freestyle relay teams and finished four seconds behind Walbright to take fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:35.74).

Sophomore Raquel Woerner was the fourth member of the 200 and 800 freestyle relay teams, while senior Jessica Student swam legs in both the 200 and 400 medley relays and finished fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:04.15). The second leg of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams were swum by senior Ashley Goodwill and freshman Caitlin Henney, respectively.

Washington & Jefferson took home the team title with 1033 points. Host Grove City was second with 718, followed by Hiram with 659, Mount Union with 435 and SRU with 385.
