Students held at gunpoint during robbery

Six SRU students were robbed at gunpoint Tuesday at the Ivy Apartment complex on Kiester Road. Five SRU students were arrested and charged after the incident. Blane Jefferson, 18, of North Braddock; Daresse Henderson, 18, of New Castle; Harold Tardy, 18, of Pittsburgh and Jacquay Hosey, 21, also of Pittsburgh, were charged with robbery, theft, false imprisonment, receiving stolen property and conspiracy.

Minor-league baseball team will play all road games in '08

New graduate program helps further education

A proposed graduate program between Slippery Rock University and Youngstown State University of Ohio could create more options for Slippery Rock students who are majoring in education and would like to earn a doctorate degree. "We could provide a great service to Slippery Rock students that we cannot provide on our own," said SRU President Robert Smith.

With presidential elections coming up in 2008, many people are wondering if college students are paying attention to the electoral races currently going on. Alex McNeill, president of the SRU College Democrats, said that as debates heat up, more people should be joining the organization.

Vincent Science Hall to get $15 million upgrade

Vincent Science Hall has been on campus since 1968 and is now getting ready for a major renovation. The renovation is planned to start in June 2008, said Herbert Carlson, assistant vice President for Design, Construction and Management. It is expected to be completed in 18 months and is estimated to cost $15 million.

SRU president addresses Title IX issues at SGA meeting

SRU president Robert Smith addressed on Thursday ongoing Title IX issues, assuring the Student Government Association that the university is still in compliance. The 1972 law requires that men and women be given equal opportunities for participation in athletics and any other official activities at universities that receive federal funding.
