SRU lost the opening game of the tourney to Point Park University last Friday by a 94-70 margin.
Point Park led by 10 at halftime and used a 26-6 surge in the second half to put the Rock away.
Erroll Robinson was the top scorer on the night with 22 points and Burka pulled down nine rebounds for the Rock.
"We wanted to get the win against Point Park, but they were a better team," Palmer said. "They just wore us down."
SRU made only 26 field goals, shooting just under 50 percent for the night.
The Rock struggled from the free throw stripe as well, hitting just 12 of 26 in the loss.
The Rock opened the season just prior to Thanksgiving break with a close loss against Mercyhurst College, 62-58.
SRU never led in the game, falling behind by as many as 14 points.
Johnson led the team in scoring with 19 points. Robinson and Scales each added 10 for SRU.
Burka had nine points and 11 rebounds.
Poor foul shooting came back to haunt the Rock again as they shot just 42.3 percent from the line.
"Looking at the schedule, we focus on games we think are must-wins, (and) Mercyhurst was one of those," Palmer said.
Palmer will now look to its upcoming PSAC crossover games against West Chester and his alma mater, Millersville.
At Millersville, Palmer was a three-time first team all-PSAC East selection and earned PSAC East Player of the Year in 1997-98.
"Anytime we head out east, it is a special game for me, (Millersville Head) Coach Thompson knows I am coming for him," Palmer said.
