When you get to a stage that the Rock and Head Coach Noreen Herlihy were on last weekend in the first and second rounds of the NCAA playoffs, a simple philosophy comes to mind.

Win or go home.

Heading into its first-round match-up against Adelphi, a team the Rock (17-5-1) had never faced, everyone knew that a win allowed them to move on and a loss would send them home for good.

A win also meant that the Rock would get a chance at redemption against West Chester, the team that beat the Green and White 2-0 for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship on Nov. 4.

The Rock didn't disappoint, shutting out Adelphi 2-0 and setting the stage for the showdown with the Golden Rams.

"We had a fabulous performance against Adelphi," Herlihy said. "We trained hard all week and were ready for it. It was a well deserved result and really good game."

Courtney Hoover put the Rock up 1-0 in the 19th minute when she took a pass from Danielle Cooper and put it in the back of the net.

Cooper would help the Rock score its second goal of the game a little over 10 minutes later, when she assisted on Meghan McGrath's blast that beat Adelphi goalie Christine Conway from eight yards out, putting SRU up 2-0.

In Sunday's second-round game against West Chester, the No. 2 seed in the Northeast and also the host site of the SRU-Adelphi game, the Rock knew that it would be in for a battle.

"West Chester is the defending regional champs and a team that made it to the final four a year ago," Herlihy said. "We knew it would be a tough task, but we believed that we could do it."

But for the second time in as many games against West Chester, the Green and White was unable to find the back of the net, winding up on the short end of the 1-0 contest.
