Prof speaks out about women

Farooka Gauhari shares stories, artifacts from Afghanistan

An Afghan woman visited Slippery Rock University to share stories and facts about how women in Islamic societies are treated compared to women in American society. Farooka Gauhari, a professor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, spoke at SRU Tuesday in the Strain Behavioral Science Building auditorium about her memoirs, "Searching for Saleem: An Afghan Woman's Odyssey.

Students push to have 'green' campus

Slippery Rock University has multiple obstacles to overcome before it can become a "green" campus. "Universities can have a big impact on the environment, and recently there have been a lot of universities that are taking the initiative to become environmental leaders," said Michelle Czolba, 26-year-old graduate student in SRU's Masters of Science in Sustainable Systems Program.

New organization sheds light on human trafficking

Americans for Informed Democracy is an international program and there is a new chapter at Slippery Rock University. Rose Iksic, Slippery Rock University's AID chapter president, started the organization in the spring of 2006. "The main focus of the organization is that we take world issues and try to spread the word to people who are not necessarily aware of what is going on," Iksic said.

VP's attire offends sports team

"End Title IX" shirt causes controversy during SGA meeting

Members of the women's field hockey team questioned Student Government Association Vice President of Financial Affairs Michael Combs about his shirt stating "End Title IX" during Thursday's SGA senate meeting. The women's field hockey team approached Combs after the meeting to inform him about his representation of the entire SGA by wearing this shirt.
