"I think it will be good publicity for our choir, especially since we are going to be collaborating with someone who is well known in the industry," Howell said.
Lauren Daterra, a senior music education major, said that while McGovern was more widely known among older generations, she expects a large turnout.
"She will bring a whole different crowd of age groups," Daterra said. "It's going to be exciting."
For SRU, McGovern's visit is just one of four events that are part of this year's Performing Arts Series.
In February, Philadanco, a group of skilled dancers, will be making an appearance at SRU, followed by a musical performance by Five Guys Named Moe in March.
Deb Baker, manager of university events, said that McGovern's visit to SRU will allow students and members of the community to see a woman who has traveled all over the world and has so much musical talent.
"Back in the '70s she was famous, but since then she has been doing extraordinary work on Broadway," Baker said. "Her performance value plus her educational value will be great worth to SRU students and the community."
Baker also said that McGovern and other performances are made possible by grants, organizations and individuals who make these performances affordable to students.
"Any time we can bring someone to our community, we are excited," Baker said. "While we are not a big stopping point, it's good any time someone can stop at our university."
Baker said that any student interested in attending McGovern's performance should make reservations as soon as possible.
Tickets for the event, which will begin at 7:30 p.m., will cost $8 for students, $25 for adults and $22 for senior citizens. Ticket reservations can be made by calling (724) 738-2091 or by stopping at room 201 in Old Main.
"It's going to be an amazing show," Baker said. "It will be a lot of fun."
