The Slippery Rock University student-run radio station, WSRU 88.1, has been expanded this school year, giving the organization more talent and diversity than it has seen in previous years.

"A record number of freshmen this year signed up," said Marios Kritiotis, a senior political science major.

Kritiotis, 21, works as a staff representative for the organization. His duties include gathering the personal information of the organization's members and informing everyone of upcoming meetings.

He said he believes this year differs from previous years because of students' increased interest in the organization, resulting in greater diversity overall.

"Because so many people want to DJ, we have a lot more diverse music," Kritiotis said.

Sean Lohrer, 21, the general manager of WSRU-FM, said he thinks a lot of the station's diversity is also due to the relaxed rules regarding what the DJs are permitted to play.

"While most college radio stations have strict formats and regulations as to what their DJs play and when they play it, we allow our DJs to play anything they want, which adds to the diversity of our station," Lohrer said.

Lohrer, a secondary education-English major, believes that this year the station has a more organized and enthusiastic staff than it has had in previous years and an ever-expanding number of members.

"At the end of last semester we only had 20 to 30 members of the station," Lohrer said. "Now, including our executive board, staff, and trainees, we have close to 70 members, and it is still growing."
