Stunning the top team in the region is good. Clinching the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West title is great. Winning the PSAC Championship and earning a berth in the regional playoffs? Now that would be wonderful. That is the next goal the Rock (15-3-1, 8-1-1) and Head Coach Noreen Herlihy wants to cross off the list.
Last week, Slippery Rock Head Coach George Mihalik said his team's game against Shippensburg would be a 60-minute affair. He was right. Well, almost. The Rock won a thriller against the Red Raiders last Saturday, 38-34, scoring the game-winning touchdown with two seconds remaining on a 17-yard fade pass from senior quarterback Nate Crookshank to senior wide receiver Paul Favers.
Ten years is a long time. The world has changed a lot in the past decade, but a 10-year-long streak was brought to an end by Slippery Rock's women's volleyball team on Tuesday night. SRU (21-13 overall, 2-6 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West) beat Lock Haven (10-16, 3-5), ending a 22-match streak of futility that dated back to the teams' first square-off in 1997.
Even if your team is composed solely of stars, knowing who to start when injuries or bye weeks strike is of paramount importance. With this being another week with a whopping six teams on bye, it's likely you may have to plug in a lesser-known player at a key spot.
