"We played consistently throughout," Langstone said. "There's still room for improvement, but it was a promising performance."
The Rock came into the game 8-5-2 overall and 7-3-2 in the PSAC after defeating Kutztown 2-0 last Saturday. Sophomore Jeremy Deighton put Slippery Rock on the scoreboard early in the first half, scoring his sixth goal of the season.
Senior Nick Christy passed the ball to Perri, who crossed it in front of the net. Mocarsky let the ball go, giving Deighton a perfect opportunity in front of the net.
Midway through the first half, it looked as though Slippery Rock was going to pull ahead 2-0, but the goal was called back due to controversial offsides call by the line judge.
Hutton secured the victory in the 30th minute of play, scoring his first-ever collegiate goal. Perri knocked it to Hutton, who fired from over 20 yards out. Kutztown goalie Ryan Kratz was unable to stop it.
Slippery Rock outshot Kutztown by a 21-11 margin. Deighton led the team in shots, with six total and four on net. Mocarsky added another four shots, and Bowser had three.
Rock goalie Greg Blum recorded the shutout with three saves. Chris Cook added another three saves.
Slippery Rock will take on West Chester in a conference game this Saturday at 3 p.m. at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium. West Chester currently sits at the No. 5 spot in the conference with an overall record of 8-8-0 and 7-6-0 in the conference.
"We want to work on making sure we can push out from the back to close the space between the defense and the midfield," Langstone said. "We also want to work on maintaining possession of the ball."
