While most of the student body was gone for fall break, SRU finally snapped its 29-game losing streak with a win over visiting Millersville 3-1 on Oct. 9.
The win marked the first time SRU had won a game since the 2006 season opener on year.
Senior Ashley Stoner was the driving force behind the victory; assisting on all three SRU goals.
The win provided the team, which is composed primarily of freshmen, with a much-needed confidence boost heading into the home finale against East Stroudsburg.
"Winning was a good experience for the team," said freshman Samantha Badaczewski. "We knew Millersville was a game we could win, so we had a lot of confidence as a team going into the game."
SRU (1-16, 1-12 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference), however, was unable to carry any of the momentum from the victory and dropped the contest with East Stroudsburg 3-0 on Sunday. The team had a few scoring chances, but were unable to capitalize on any of them. Their passing looked more confident and the team seemed to be playing harder, but they could not manage to put one past the opposing goal keeper.
Adding insult to injury, the Rock did not manage a shot on goal. However, freshman goalie Lisa Belcastro managed to turn away nine of the 12 shots fired at her. Her continued development is vital to the success of the program in the future.
The Rock also dropped a 1-0 decision to Mercyhurst on Wednesday.
