RBI Development will be breaking ground Oct. 27 to construct a new establishment that will bring a hotel, small shopping plaza and retail stores to the Slippery Rock area. "For some time there has been an interest in building a hotel just beside the Slippery Rock Cemetery," said Slippery Rock Mayor Ken Harris.
Some Slippery Rock University students believe they are specifically targeted by police for underage drinking. Carrie Mazurek, a sophomore psychology major, speaks from experience. She was outside Watson Hall last year with her head drooping between her knees because she didn't feel well.
An organization known as the Teaching and Learning Technology Roundtable has been helping the university integrate technology to aid in student education. "What we want to do is promote technology in a teaching environment," said Abigail Amissah-Arthur, the first year co-convener for the TLTR.
During the Student Government Association meeting Thursday, there was talk about a potential graffiti wall being displayed on campus. Commuter Senator Evan Matthews has been working on the project for a few weeks but has not made much progress. "I am trying to find somewhere to put a graffiti wall on campus," Matthews said, "but I am pretty much getting shut down by President Smith.
Students across the country have been receiving e-mails asking them to sign up for loans, but many students do not know that a lot of the e-mails are scams. "I refuse to open those e-mails unless I know who they are coming from," exercise science major Alex Shafer, 22, said.
