Though the meaning of modern dance is up for interpretation, the physical demands on the performers are very real.
"("Falling") has required a lot of risk-taking on the part of the students," Keller said.
The other guest-choreographed work was obtained by special permission for the concert. Originally preformed in 1976, Lar Lubovitch's "Marimba" will be preformed by 10 SRU students.
"("Marimba") is a trance-like piece that doesn't stop moving for 20 minutes," Keller said.
Keller also said "Marimba" is restaged at SRU by John Dagger, meaning Dagger was sent as a representative of the Lubovitch company to coach the students and to bring the nuances of Lubovitch's work to life on stage.
""Marimba" is a fantastic piece to be on the program this year," Keller said. "Audience members are going to see a famous historical work, and students have had the experience of embodying the work for the last six months as they've learned it and rehearsed it."
Jaya Mani, a dance instructor at SRU, will present a classical Indian dance. Mani's students from Pittsburgh will be performing as guests at the concert. The dancers will be wearing classical Indian costumes.
In addition to those performances, Streitman said Nola Nolen, an assistant professor of dance, will present a contemporary ballet piece that has a tribal, primal feel.
Pre-sale tickets for the Faculty and Guest Artists Dance Concert will be available during common hour on Tues., Oct. 23, in Morrow Field House.
Tickets will also be available at the box office of Miller Auditorium starting at 7 p.m. the night of the show.
Tickets will be $5 for SRU students and $10 for general admission.
"We encourage buying pre-sale tickets so that there is not a long line at the box office the night of the concert," Keller said. "We always have a large house."
