Minutes before the first half ended, ESU's Dennis Maldonado tied the game, scoring on an assist from Shane McFarlane.
Although ESU led the Rock 6-3 in shots taken, the Rock kept up with the No. 1 ranked PSAC team.
"We dominated them for the first 60 minutes, we just didn't take the chances when we had them," Thompson said.
ESU pulled ahead in the 58th minute of play when Jason Rudder put one past Rock goalie Greg Blum. The freshman goalkeeper recorded five saves in the contest.
J.J. DiFerdinando secured the Warriors' eighth-straight victory with a goal late in the second half to put East Stroudsburg ahead 3-1.
ESU outshot the Rock by a 14-9 margin.
"The difference between us and the No. 11-ranked team in the country is finishing," Thompson said. "We need to get that final ball, final cross, final shot."
SRU will have had plenty of time to work on that before taking the field this Saturday at Bloomsburg at 2 p.m.
"We have the chances to put the ball in, we just don't," Monte said. "We need to work on that as a team."
Christy said the team still needs work on some areas.
"I think we're playing strong now," Christy said. "Everything just has to come together so we can get back on track."
After the Rock's game against Bloomsburg, the team will travel to Wheeling, W.Va. on Oct. 10 before returning home to Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Stadium for Homecoming Weekend. The Rock takes on Kutztown on Oct. 13.
"The next three games are vital. We need to win the games we should win," Thompson said. "We're all staying positive.
"We have the heart and determination we need. We have great team spirit, and that will carry us through."
