The numbers are in, and they are staggering.
In its two games this week, Slippery Rock (0-12 overall, 0-8 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) field hockey did not manage a single goal, which can be directly attributed to the fact that they didn't even attempt a single shot in either game.
The Rock dropped its match-up with No.2-nationally ranked Bloomsburg (10-1, 7-1) on Saturday, getting out shot 48-0 and lost by a score of 9-0.
Earlier in the season, Bloomsburg had defeated the Rock with results that were eerily similar to the second match-up.
In that game, on Sept. 5, they lost by a 12-0 score while being out shot 41-0.
The situation would not improve for the Rock, as it was forced to travel to No.1 nationally ranked Kutztown (12-1, 7-1).
The Rock dropped the contest 7-0, marking the seventh time this season that the team has not tallied a goal.
The meeting was also the second time SRU has been forced to play the No. 1 ranked team nationally on the road this season.
Previously, they had to face Bloomsburg on the road when the Huskies were still the nation's top-ranked team.
Now Kutztown has claimed the top spot, and the Rock had another chance to upset a top ranked opponent.
"We wanted to go in there and give them a good game," freshman Samantha Badaczewski said. "Against Bloomsburg the second game we did not lose as badly, and I think we are getting better as a team."
SRU will next play host to Shippensburg at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The game against Shippensburg will be the first in a three game homestand for the Rock.
The quest for an elusive first win doesn't get any easier in SRU's final seven games as they face three of the regions top-five teams, including IUP and Kutztown, who have a combined record of 21-3.
