Most students-and faculty, for that matter-have been in the situation: It's mid-morning, and you're running slightly late for your class that's to start in 10 minutes. You're now faced with two options that seem to come straight out of one of those choose-your-own-destiny children's books.
I really need to applaud the university and the University Program Board for their choice of entertainment this week. Having a slam poet come to campus was a wise idea. In addition to being entertaining, slam poetry teaches students that it's OK to like poetry and that it's not as awful as it seems.
It would be interesting to know what went through the mind of Alexander Graham Bell after he invented the telephone more than 130 years ago. My guess is that after he realized that he had found a way to transmit his voice over a wire, he probably rejoiced at the thought that people could talk to long-lost relatives, philosophers could debate theories and world leaders could bridge peace between rival nations just by speaking into a device without leaving their homes.
Ah, another year at Slippery Rock, and the weirdness has begun again, fresh and new as always. I rarely read the police blotter. I think it takes the fun out of things. Sure it's funny to find the name of someone you know in there, but honestly, things are more entertaining when you get all your information through hearsay.
