"The programs provided all deal with skills that people in the community are trying to improve," Madera said.
The new session for Microsoft Excel Level 1, instructed by Shirley Rodgers of Butler, began on Tuesday.
These programs are designed so that anyone can come in and take the class and not be embarrassed if their computer skills are lacking.
"We have had people come in who know absolutely nothing about computers-not even how to turn the machine on," Rodgers said, "but after taking classes, they learn a lot more about computers and programs than they had previously known."
There were five people in attendance at the Microsoft Excel course. Among them were secretaries, bankers and social workers.
"I really need to know this for my job-in order to expand my education. It is a wonderful idea to have classes available for people in the area," said attendee Beverly Burrows.
Many of the attendees found out about the class online and were there to improve their computer skills.
"I am here to enhance my ability when dealing with spreadsheets and budgeting," said Cindy Schnur, a clerk typist from the geography, geology, and environment department. "I have heard lots of good things about this class."
Some of the topics discussed during class were how to manage formulas, spreadsheets, pivot tables, formatting cells and managing larger worksheets and spicing them up.
