Just four and a half months after the Virginia Tech massacre, in which 32 students were killed, college administrators, faculty and students across the country are still understandably on edge. And consequently, universities are putting an increased emphasis on safety.
When I am driving home from a long day of classes, the last thing I want to do is pretend that I live in Tel Aviv. But unfortunately, as a commuter on Slippery Rock's Kiester Road, that is a daily reality. In general, every student with a car knows that Slippery Rock is under some form of construction or another at any given time.
In 2006, Brian Setzer released an album titled "13." One of the tracks, "Drink Whiskey and Shut Up," describes a bar with no televisions or fancy drinks. It goes back to a time when you would talk to the person sitting beside you and socialize. Today, bars are amusement parks for 20-year-olds.
