A bonus payable to full-time regular faculty in fall 2007 will be $1,750. A 3 percent increase would be given in both 2008 and 2009, and a 4 percent increase the next year.
A concern expressed by some faculty is that the 4 percent increase would not take place until October 2010 - a month later than the previous years'; increases occur.
Assuming a positive or negative recommendation by the delegates of the Legislative Assembly, the Board of Governors will vote on the contract Oct. 11, after the entire faculty has voted on it.
Another concern of some faculty is that the current temporary-faculty cap is seven percent, but language in the tentative contract would raise that to 25 percent.
"This would not put us in a better position to recruit and retain," Heilman said. "We can't keep the universities running like that."
SRU Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Bill Williams said he is aware that there are faculty members who want the agreement and those who don't.
Condravy, the SRU APSCUF president, said the faculty has had a broad array of responses.
"I plan on voting for a positive recommendation for the tentative agreement," she said.
SRU Legislative Assembly delegate Derrick Pitard said that the language presented is OK, but that he still doesn't know if he will give it a positive recommendation.
Added SRU Legislative Assembly delegate William Boggs, "There are a number of positive points, but there are some worrisome clauses that aren't very attractive. One aspect that will be discussed is not only what kind of recommendation will be given, but where would we go next in each situation."
