This year, after detailed planning and organizing, the Performing Arts Series will showcase the talents of the New Shanghai Circus Acrobats of China, Maureen McGovern, Philadanco and the production of Five Guys Named Moe.
Although the group originally planned to perform for Family and Friends Weekend on September 14 was the Golden Dragon Acrobats, due to some traveling issues, Baker said she was forced to find a replacement.
However, Baker said she was happy to announce that the new performers for September 14 will be the New Shanghai Circus Acrobats of China, a group SRU is bringing in from Branson, Missouri.
A group which mixes Eastern dance and acrobatics with music and acts involving trapeze, hoop-diving and jar juggling, these artists will show SRU just why they have won the award of "Best Foreign Production on Broadway" in 1999.
On December 1, Maureen McGovern, a well-known singer who has made her presence known in the music industry through recordings, Broadway, concerts, television, movies, radio and composing will be taking the stage in Miller Auditorium.
Baker said the dance department is extremely excited for the third performance in the series, a company of highly skilled professional dancers that make up the group Philadanco, on February 8.
A dance company that has performed in Europe, Asia, the United Kingdom and the Caribbean as well as the Kimmel Center, the Joyce Theater and the Lincoln Center, these dancers will now bring their performance to Slippery Rock.
A light-hearted theatre presentation titled "Five Guys Names Moe" will be closing the four-series event on March 29.
This two-time Tony Award winning musical performance will tell a story of five guys who cheer up a down-hearted man.
"It'll be a very fun show," Baker said.
