One of the most popular attractions at the block party was a Dance Dance Revolution arcade game where students had the opportunity to compete against their classmates while showing off their dance moves.
While it was very warm inside the field house, the incoming freshmen seemed energetic as they observed and took part in the many exhibits with their nametags hanging around their necks and looks of excitement on their faces.
Many of the students said they were surprised by all the different events that were planned throughout the weekend, and many were happy that SRU helped them meet new people.
"Out of all the schools I've been to, SRU is the one that actually does activities," Mike Zappitella, a freshman political science major, said.
David Maul, a freshman athletic training major, was also impressed by the various events that were planned.
"It's nice being able to meet people and not just jump into class," Maul said.
Ashley Mamula, a freshman majoring in elementary education, joked that if it were not for these events, she would probably just be on her computer looking at Facebook profiles wondering who else was new to SRU.
"If we weren't here, we would just be in our dorms," Mamula said.
While classes began on Monday morning, the WOW event continued throughout the week with various sporting events and open house programs.
But while many students enjoyed the activities and meeting new people this weekend, Cathie Sadler, the coordinator of Student Involvement and Family Connection, said she believes the event will also benefit freshmen throughout their college careers.
"I think these events are important because students can meet people from their residence halls," Sadler said, "but with these events, they can meet other new people and get started with an exciting school year."
