Possible strike still looms as deadline nears

Slippery Rock University faculty and coaches gave a "yes" vote on a strike authorization last week, as Association of Pennsylvania State College & University Faculties and state system officials continued contract talks.

Schoolhouse provides students with chance to go back in teaching time

The Hickory Corners Schoolhouse is SRU's own connection to the history of education. Acquired by the university in 1988, the schoolhouse now serves as a classroom and museum. It was divided into pieces and reassembled here on campus when it was moved from its original location near the Unionville firehouse.

New vice president elected, sworn in

The Student Government Association voted to reinstate Michael Combs as Vice President of Financial Affairs during Thursday's meeting. Combs, Garrison Phillis and Rose Iksic were the three candidates who ran for the position.

Fight leads to early closing

Large crowds and fights resulted in the early closings for the local Sheetz and Ginger Hill Tavern businesses Monday night. There were more than 150 people in the parking lot at Sheetz, forcing the 24-hour business on Main Street to close around midnight due to safety concerns for the employees, said Slippery Rock Borough Patrolman Jason Bennett.

History comes alive near Slippery Rock University

The Old Stone House provides Slippery Rock University students and the surrounding community the opportunity to experience history in their everyday lives. According to the Old Stone House Web site, between 1822 and 1885 the house provided travelers with a meal and a bed while on the road.
