School records continue to fall as the outdoor track team broke another record on its way to a combined six first-place finishes between two meets.

The Rock competed at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania meet and the West Virginia Invitational this past weekend.

For the women at the IUP invite, freshman Jennifer Hansen broke the school record in the pole vault with a height of 12 feet, 9 inches, winning the event and qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Outdoor Championships.

Also for the women at the IUP meet, freshman Serena Bond won the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet, 3.5 inches.

The last of the first place finishes for the Rock was by freshman Susan Yuhas in the javelin with a distance of 132 feet.

On the men's side at IUP, sophomore Brian Dell placed first in the shot put with a distance of 49 feet, 9 inches.

Junior Adam Jones garnered a first place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 162 feet, 6 inches.

Also at the meet, senior Shayne Cooper ran his first hurdles race of the season. Cooper was injured during the indoor season.

"He was running the hurdles and hit one and fell," Coach John Papa said. "He missed a big chunk of the season, but he did a nice job in his first race back, and we are hoping he gets back to his championship level from last year."

The two women's relay teams also competed at the West Virginia Invitational last weekend.

The 4x400 relay team finished first with a time of 3:49.16. The four women who ran the 4x400 were freshman Jessica Sackin, senior Andi Rose, sophomore Lacey Cochran and senior Melissa Sopher.

"They had a really solid meet," Papa said. "We are excited; they are at the top of the conference and that works well for the conference championships."

The 4x100 relay placed second with a time of 47.41.

The four women who ran the 4x100 were Cochran, sophomore Vera McDaniel, Rose and junior Janiece Rash.
