SGA must adhere to own rules
Issue date: 4/27/07 Section: Rocket Letters
To the editor:
The corruption surrounding the recent SGA Election is absolutely disgusting. After much discussion, it has become accepted as fact that Michael Combs was clearly ineligible to run for VP of Financial Affairs because he failed to meet the qualification guidelines set forth in the SGA Constitution. The Election Commission, Executive Committee, and Michael Combs all bear responsibility for violating the Constitution. Had the Election Commission followed guidelines set forth in the Constitution, Garrison Phillis would have been elected as VP of Financial Affairs for the 07-08 academic year. In order to correct this disastrous mistake, Garrison Phillis must be selected by the SGA Senate as next year's VP of Financial Affairs. Any other decision undermines the SGA Constitution as well as the democratic process. Members of SGA need to remember that they took an oath promising to uphold the Constitution. Electing someone who was disqualified for illegally winning the SGA election would be extremely irresponsible and in complete violation of the oath of office.
