One of these was when the Pittsburgh Steelers held a practice here and they were able to watch. Another was when the Pittsburgh Symphony orchestra did a performance at SRU. They said that the arts are something they really find pleasure in.
"We have enjoyed so much the performing arts programs," Bill said. "We are constantly amazed at the talent we have here."
Their time at Slippery Rock has been a rewarding one with the facility itself, students, and staff. They also recalled a time when there was a rain shower and a boy insisted on giving the couple his umbrella as they walked to Boozel Dining Hall.
"We spend a lot of time at the ARC," Helen said. "We can be seen there five or six times a week."
Helen walks two to three miles while Bill swims.
"She would have trouble swimming 50 yards and I would have difficulty walking 50 yards," Bill said.
Helen suffers from muscular degeneration of the retina, which impairs her vision significantly. She has trouble seeing faces, signs, and steps.
"One time this resulted in her going into the men's locker room, where she was quickly but kindly escorted out," Bill said.
Bill and Helen want to extend their appreciation to the students and staff at SRU:
"To all we say thanks for helping us through this phase of our journey through life."
