The awful F word.

Finals.

Endless hours in the library, countless cups of coffee and last minute cram-sessions are among the many issues that students deal with during this hectic week. But one thing that students may never think twice about during finals is food.

Take a minute and acknowledge what your eating habits were like during last semester's finals week. Did you eat more? Less? Did you eat more random meals here and there in place of your normal dining times?

If you answered yes to these questions, you're not alone. Many other students are not on their normal eating routines during this busy week.

"I sometimes eat more during finals week because I have more time and I'm not in class as much as normal," said Nathan Blakeley, a junior exercise science major. "And people stay up late (during finals), so I'm assuming that most people drink more caffeinated drinks and eat more."

Jackie Bence, a 20-year-old sophomore resort tourism management major agreed that her eating habits usually change during finals week, but unlike Blakeley, Bence said she normally eats less during finals week than during the average week.

"I feel like I have too much work to do during finals week to eat," Bence said. "I snack here and there but don't usually stop what I'm doing to go out of my way to eat somewhere. I do try to eat breakfast though."

Janelle McNeal, a 19-year-old freshman elementary education major, had completely different views on the topic.

"My eating patterns really don't change at all because finals week is basically the same as any other week for me," McNeal said. "I don't normally eat breakfast though, and I really try to make sure that I do during finals week."

Due to the changes in eating habits that some students go through, the dining halls try to address these needs.

Steve Huggins, the general manager at Boozel Dining Hall, said he thinks that students tend to eat more during finals week. He said he thinks this is because of the nerves students are facing.
