The Rock women's tennis team could find itself listed under the most wins record in the school record book with one more win this season.

With a 5-1 win over Bryant College at the Bloomsburg Duals last weekend, the team moved into a tie with the 2002-03 team at 21 wins on the year.

Coach Matt Meredith was head coach for that team and believes this squad is the best SRU has ever seen.

"We are the best team ever here at SRU, we are the first team to be six players deep," Meredith said.

The team's 21-4 record is impressive and Meredith attributes all the work throughout the season to the record.

"We have put in a lot of hard work since the beginning of the season and it has shown through our record," Meredith said. "Every single player, up and down the lineup has improved."

The team tied the school record with three victories over Bryant College, Concordia (N.Y.) and Queens (N.Y.) at the Bloomsburg Duals this past weekend.

The victory over Bryant was the team's ninth straight win and its 16th out of its last 18.

Sophomore Kayla Blackburn and freshman Laura Handy set the pace for the Rock with an 8-4 win in the No. 1 doubles match.

Blackburn and Handy both won their singles matches as well. Blackburn won 6-2, 6-2 and Handy won 6-2, 6-1.

Senior Ashley Greene and freshman Jessica Hilborn won their match 8-2 and sophomores Lara Rizzi and Christina Rhodes finished the sweep of doubles, 8-6.

The Rock notched their 20th win of the year with a win over Concordia by the score of 5-1.

The bottom half of the lineup came through in the clutch to boost the team to victory.

The team of Greene and Hilborn won their doubles match with a score of 8-2 and the pair of Rizzi and Rhodes also won their doubles match 8-2.

Hilborn and Rizzi both won their singles matches by tallies of 6-1, 6-0 as Rhodes finished off Concordia with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

This is the third time in team history that they have reached the 20-win plateau, with all three occurrences coming in the past six seasons.
