SRU to host PSAC Championships
The Pennslyvania State Athletic Conference has chosen to move the location of its 2007 Baseball Championship Tournament to Slippery Rock University's Jack Critchfield Park.
PSAC Commissioner Steve Murray announced Friday that the championship tournament will be played at the Jack on May 2-5. The championship tournament was originally scheduled for Williamsport, Pa., and was to utilize playing facilities at Bowman Field and Williamsport Area High School. However, the surrounding area at Bowman Field is scheduled to host a weekend festival which raised potential parking and liability concerns for the PSAC.
Besides the location, the other significant change is the expansion of the tournament from three days (Thursday through Saturday) to four days (Wednesday through Saturday). The extra day was needed to accommodate the switch from a two-field venue to Slippery Rock's single field.
A change in the original format may also occur, allowing teams from further distances more time to travel. The tournament will now have the closest teams in the Western Division opening play against their Eastern Division opponents on Wednesday evening. The top three teams in each division qualify for the tournament.
