The Rock softball team split against non-conference Mercyhurst on Thursday and swept the Golden Eagles of Clarion on Wednesday at home and moved to over .500 on the season.

SRU (19-17 overall, 5-7 PSAC West) took the doubleheader by scores of 8-0 and 13-5 against Clarion while beating Mercyhurst 6-3 in game and losing in game two by the same score.

The game two loss snapped a season-high five-game win streak for the Rock.

The split gives Mercyhurst a 18-15 record and the team is currently ranked seventh in this week's NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional ranking.

In game one against Clarion on Wednesday, senior pitcher Courtney Conron pitched another stellar game, with a six-inning complete game outing for the Rock. Conron, who is now 6-6 on the season, now has 10 complete-game efforts in 2007. In the shutout victory, Conron allowed five hits with seven strikeouts and three walks.

On offense, SRU scored at least one run in each inning, except for the fifth. Leading the way on offense was junior shortstop Stacey Rhoades, who went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a double.

Freshman Courtney Vincent was a force to be reckoned with at the plate and on the basepaths, as she had a game-high three hits with three runs scored and three stolen bases.

In game two, junior leftfielder Meghan McHenry was a huge offensive factor for the Rock, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs. McHenry had a two-run double in the second, a run-scoring single in the third and another single that plated two runs in the fourth.

The Rock pounded out 16 total hits in the dominating win that included four Rock home runs.
