The Rock baseball team could very easily be sitting in fourth place in their division after a four-game series with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the last week.

But thanks to a pair of seventh-inning, come-from-behind wins, the Rock (22-12 overall, 7-5 PSAC West) still sits in third and within striking distance of division leaders California (Pa.) and Shippensburg.

Junior first baseman Dan Hudeck blasted a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh on Wednesday to give SRU a 9-8 win and its second late-inning victory in three games.

"When I hit it, I knew it was gone," said Hudeck, who went 4-for-7 with three RBI on the day. "But what was even better was when I was rounding the bases I knew we were able to get a win, even though we didn't play as well as we should have."

Hudeck's longball came on an 0-2 count after he took a strike and then bunted a pitch foul. Hudeck was attempting to advance junior Travis Trimbur, who was pinch-running for freshman Matt Adams. Adams had reached on an error to lead off the home half of the seventh.

Rock Head Coach Jeff Messer said Hudeck's homer wasn't quite how he envisioned the game ending.

"You're trying to go with the plan and move the runner over, but it just didn't end up happening that way," Messer said. "Usually what happens is the batter ends up rolling over on a fastball and grounding into a double play. But it worked out for us, so we'll take it."

The Rock then dropped the second game by a score of 5-3 to complete the four-game series originally scheduled to be completed last Saturday. The two games played on Wednesday had originally been set for last Friday, but weather postponements pushed them back.
