The Rock women's water polo team picked up its fourth win of the season Tuesday with a thrilling triple overtime victory over Grove City, with a score of 12-11 at the Morrow Field House pool.

"It was a close game," coach Jim Yeamans said. "It was tough, and we were battling it out. We were fortunate to win the game."

The win ends the Rock's six-game losing streak and pushed its overall record to 4-13 on the season.

"It was a great game, and the girls played great defense," Yeamans said. "And being at home, we get a crowd that gets into the game, and it helps the girls get into the game."

Junior driver Beth Choike scored the game-winning goal in the third overtime period to snap the Rock out of its losing streak

"She did a great job," Yeamans said.

Senior offensive set/driver Erika Brunner led the Rock effort by scoring seven goals.

Besides their goals, Brunner recorded one assist and one steal, while Choike recorded one steal and a caused kick-out.

Sophomore driver Heather Walbright racked up two goals, one assist and three caused kick-outs.

Junior offensive set Ashley Goodwill and senior driver Megan Jo Ramage each scored one goal for the Rock effort.

Junior defensive set Sarah Sander recorded one assist and three steals, while sophomore driver Betsy Wilson racked up one assist and one steal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Surbaugh recorded 19 saves and two steals in the offensive-minded match.

"She played well in net for us and had a great game," Yeamans said.

The Rock is gearing up for the remainder of the season with two big games, one against Washington & Jefferson and the other against Penn State Beherend. Then it will travel to Michigan where it hopes to place third in the championships.
