Indoor track stays consistent in meets

The SRU outdoor track team finished fifth at the Western Pa. Championships at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on March 31. The Rock had a combined five first-place finishes at the meet.

For the women, the team had three of the five first-place finishes.

Freshman Serena Bon finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 36 feet 7.5 inches. Sophomore Jennifer Harpp garnered a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:24.50, while fellow sophomore Vera McDaniel won the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.68.

Also, freshman Susan Yuhas finished second in the javelin throw with a distance of 136 feet 11 inches. With this distance, she qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships.

As for the men's side, they had two first-place finishes on its way to an overall fifth-place team finish.

Freshman Patrick Reagan finished first in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 31:55.10, while freshman James Schnedier garnered a first-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 15 feet.

Freshman Nate Hardic finished second in the javelin throw with a distance of 190 feet 7 inches.

On the same day, the Rock also competed in the Charlotte Invitational in Charlotte, N.C.

On the women's side, senior Andi Rose won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.99. Rose also finished second in the 400-meter hurdles.

Freshman Jennifer Hansen garnered a first-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 12 feet 8.75 inches. With this height, she set a new school record in the event.

Also, for the women, senior Melissa Sopher placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.10. She also finished 14th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.75.

Sophomore Laura Mucho placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:51.02. Mucho also finished 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.60.
