The Rock women's water polo team picked up its fourth win of the season Tuesday with a thrilling triple overtime victory over Grove City, with a score of 12-11 at the Morrow Field House pool. "It was a close game," coach Jim Yeamans said. "It was tough, and we were battling it out.
The Rock softball team lost both games of a doubleheader to California (Pa.) 3-2 in the first game and 7-5 in the second game on Monday in its only games of the week. With the two losses, the Rock moved to 1-5 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play and now has an overall record of 14-14.
When people become coaches, they always have high expectations for their career. Some of the coaches never realize this dream, but many do. Track coach John Papa is one coach who has realized this dream. A few weeks ago, Papa added to his impressive coaching resume when other indoor track coaches from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference named him the conference's Coach of the Year.
The SRU women's tennis team clinched a berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs Wednesday with a 9-0 win over Shippensburg. The win moved the Rock's PSAC West record to 3-1 to assure the Rock of making the four team playoffs held April 20 and 21 at Bloomsburg University.
The SRU outdoor track team finished fifth at the Western Pa. Championships at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on March 31. The Rock had a combined five first-place finishes at the meet. For the women, the team had three of the five first-place finishes.
The Slippery Rock women's lacrosse team dropped its ninth straight game this season with a 24-1 defeat to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference powerhouse Bloomsburg on the road. So far this season, SRU has been outscored 210-25 in their nine games that have all ended in blowout losses.
Female teams, athletes honored by NOW The Women's Sports Foundation announced Monday it will honor three SRU women's athletic teams, 12 individual female student-athletes and one Rock head coach for their role in helping SRU attain gender equity in its athletic program.
