Students residing in ROCK Apartments and the new residential suites may have noticed a change in parking due to a recently closed-off road and parking lot.
Part of the lower stadium lot and North Drive has been closed off due to construction of the new halls, Buildings E and F.
Ed Bucha, executive director for University Advancement of SRU Foundation, said the locations are blocked off because the areas are active construction sites and for safety reasons.
Since the construction of Buildings E and F are not expected to be completed until the fall 2008 semester, the lot will not be permanently closed.
"(This is) just during the construction phase," Bucha said. "Because of the amount of construction, we have to close the road for obvious safety reasons; for our students as well as visitors of the campus."
Though the closing of the lot is impermanent, residents of ROCK Apartments have some concerns about the present parking situation.
"The lower lot isn't set up properly; only one way in, one way out," said Dan Godshall, junior physical education major.
Herb Carlson, assistant vice president for Facilities and Planning, said that they have been trying to accommodate to students.
"One of the things left open is the parking lot at the ski lodge," Carlson said.
He said that he personally has not heard of any complaints about issues with parking.
While the closed road and lot does not affect some on-and off-campus students, there seems to be an agreement on the need for more available parking areas altogether.
"It doesn't affect me, but we could always use more parking," said Krista Buzzelli, junior recreation management and tourism major.
Residents may have an issue with the closed lot right now, but a much larger area designated for parking will be accessible for the fall semester.
"Once (construction is) completed, a large parking area for residents will be available behind Building E, which is being built across the street from Building B," said Kevin Currie, assistant director of Residence Life/Education. "The parking lot will be over what was Founders Hall and will be a welcome addition for Residence Hall students. Again, this will be completed for fall 2008."
