Commuter senator Steve Winslow motioned during Thursday's SGA meeting to acknowledge that the SGA Election Commission Committee and the SGA Executive Committee violated the legally binding Slippery Rock Student Government Association (SRSGA) Constitution by allowing Combs to run for office in elections held March 27 and 28.
"The reason for this motion is because Combs did not meet the qualification guidelines of the constitution," he said. "In Article 4, Section 3, it states that for a student to qualify to run for an executive office they must attend two SGA senate meetings prior to the election."
Combs claims that he was misinformed about when the meeting after mid-term recess would be held.
"I was told on March 8 that the next SGA meeting would be March 22," he said. "Upon returning, I found out that there would be no meeting until the following Thursday."
SGA Parliamentarian Ashley Clark said the Election Commission Committee issued a punishment for Combs to complete 25 hours of community service in 48 hours and required him to attend every SGA meeting until the end of the spring 2007 semester.
"Combs completed the community service so the Election Commission Committee allowed him to continue with the elections," she said.
Winslow said that Article 4, Section B-3 of the constitution states, "The Election Commission Committee shall oversee the election as best seen fit by following the guidelines of the constitution."
